Life & Me

Avril Lavigne Live in Malaysia 2012

Woke up early this morning and drove all the way to Sony Music Malaysia office at Solaris Dutamas. And guess who’s heading to Avril Lavigne’s concert after the final exam?

#24 Avril Lavigne The Black Star Tour Live in Malaysia 2012 tickets

Thank you, ah Low. Thank you, The Star Rage. Thank you, Sony Music Malaysia. :D

Actually, Low won them through a contest and gave them to me because he couldn’t make it. Hehehe can’t thank youuuuuuuuuu enough!

My Plans Before The World Ends

The Mayans calender sees this year as the end, I see 2012 as a year with lots of golden opportunities.

I haven’t given much thought about what am I going to do or to achieve this year, to be honest. Not until when I was studying for my finals. You see, when I start studying, my mind goes wild. It starts thinking about my upcoming holidays, my plans for the year – where will I be going, what am I going to do – when I should really be focusing on my studies.

It truly is one scumbag brain.

Anyway, back to the main point: my big plans for 2012. There are a few things I want to get done and a few places I want to be at this year before the world ends. I’m very excited to share my big plans with you.

I purchased a pair of running shoes last year and joined the Nike We Run KL  10K. It was my first ever big running event and it was pretty awesome. In fact, I managed to finish 10K in 1 hour and 10 minutes, which is quite a good personal record. So, this year, I want to run more and run further.

I have four running events in mind for this year – the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2012, the Penang Bridge International Marathon 2012, the Adidas King of the Road 2012, and the Nike We Run KL 10K.

Out of the four running events, I must complete at least one half marathon. No full marathon for this year as I might not have enough time to train for it. At the same time, I’ll need to train to be fitter in order to play better in the MMU Football League. I’ve played about four games for the team this trimester but have failed to impress so far.

As disappointing as it is, I know I gotta buck up, or get the hell out.

As big as my plan will be, I’m still not venturing in other sports. My heart will always be with football and running. lol.

The next big thing is very much related to my university life and it’s mostly about opportunities that I must not miss. The Microsoft Imagine Cup 2012 is around the corner and despite not competing in it, I’m very excited on the prospect of joining the global Social Media Team. It’s some sort of a competition where the rules state that I’ll need to follow any local Imagine Cup team closely and report on social media platforms of their progress throughout the competition.

Apart from that, my responsible is to spread news and updates, as well as to create awareness of the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2012.

Despite the challenge, this is a really interesting project as I’ll have the opportunity to travel to the Microsoft Imagine Cup national finals, which I attended as a student blogger last May. I don’t know where will the national final be this year but I know I want to be there.

Also on the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2012, if I were to be selected to join this year’s global Social Media Team, I’ll be covering not only the Malaysia’s national final, but also the international final, which will be held in Sydney, Australia, this year.

I know this is the opportunity I don’t want to miss out on.

Done with running, football, and the opportunity of a lifetime; now let’s talk about travels in 2012.

I love travelling so much I’d travel to cheap places if I have little money and save up enough to travel further (I’ve already started saving up for Japan in 2013!!!).

Last year, I went to Langkawi Island in February…

…and chilled out at Perhentian Island and Redang Island in April.

I was in Kuching for the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2011 National Final last May.

Then I visited Kota Kinabalu with my university friends in October and watched sunrise at Sungai Lembing in Pahang in November.

To wrap up year 2011, I made it to Singapore on New Year’s Eve for the Marina Bay Sands countdown. I’ve also been to Genting Highlands a few times in 2011 – twice were with my younger brother who visited me in November and during Christmas.

So, this year, I’ll pay a visit to Perhentian Island once again, perhaps in March – it’s like an annual thing, I just want to be there every year.

In May, I’ll be flying to Bali in Indonesia with my family and if the aforementioned Microsoft Imagine Cup Social Media Team project goes well, I’ll be somewhere else for the Imagine Cup 2012 Malaysia Final, before the international final in Sydney, Australia (fingers crossed!!).

In November, I’ll be travelling to Penang for the Penang Bridge International Marathon, also mentioned earlier in this post. No need to travel for the other three running events as they’ll all be organised in Klang Valley.

Year 2012 will also be the year I get serious in photography. I’ve recently done my first ever paid assignment – Huey Yee’s engagement reception and dinner back in my hometown – and I can’t wait for more, but I know such opportunity doesn’t come knocking on my door often. Hence, I plan to work on my photography portfolio this year. It’s something I should have done long ago!

I’ve got a feeling that this year is going to be very amazing and I’m really excited.

It’s time to grow up and realise my big plans. You know you should to! :)

Hello Kitty 台灣太陽餅 Taiwanese ‘Sun Cookie’

Project 366: #23 Hello Kitty 台灣太陽餅

This cookie from Taiwan has pretty cute packaging. 太陽餅, or Sun Cookie (loosely translated) is a famous cookie which is originated from Taiwan.

I know someone who’d be really excited to see one of these. lol.

This image was shot using the HTC Windows Phone I’m using and enhanced using the Photo Enhancer app that I’ve downloaded from Windows Phone Marketplace. It works almost like the popular iOS-based Instagram. Seriously, not bad.

My Niece and I

Most of my cousins in Johore are already married and there are a lot of kids there. Every year I go back there during CNY and make lots and lots of noise with them. I brought my camera with me last week and boy they were so interested in the camera itself, instead of being in the photographs.

Here’s a picture of me and one of my cousin’s cute daughters. She’s only five this year.

Project 366: #22 My Cousin’s Daughter

This photo was taken by another niece of mine (the eldest sister of the girl in this picture). Not bad.

It’s the last day of January already but I’ve only managed to post up 22 images. That’s 71% of success rate. Not bad too.

I bet Obama’s face appeared in your head for at least twice when you were reading this post. If you don’t get it, never mind, it’s okay. :)

Angry Birds Ang Pau

Ang Pau these days come with so many different designs. This one here that I’ve gotten from my cousin sister is really cute.

Project 366: #21 Angry Birds Ang Pau

And again.. Gong Hei Fatt Choy!! :)

Chinese New Year and Sister’s Birthday

It’s the second day of the Chinese New Year and my second elder sister’s birthday so we bought a cake and gave her a little birthday surprise when the clock struck midnight.

Project 366: #20 Happy Birthday Er Jie.

And this is my family :)

Gong Hei Fatt Choy!

Sanyo Eneloop Rechargable Batteries

I’ve been using a budget third party flash unit powered by alkaline AA size batteries (mostly Energizer), which cost me around RM 14 for four units. With the money that I’ve spent on those alkaline batteries, I could’ve bought double of what I’ve bought few days ago.

Speaking of what I’ve bought few days ago, it was the replacement for those pricey and temporary alkaline batteries.

Project 366: #19 Sanyo Eneloop Rechargable Batteries

This promotional package that consists of Sanyo Eneloop AA size rechargable batteries with 2-hour quick charger and a 4-piece blister set of the same rechargable batteries cost only RM 142, with free delivery.

Footnote: The image above was taken using an iPhone 4S; straight from phone, without post-processing except for the watermark and resizing. Amazing.

BSOD Spotted at Kuala Lumpur International Airport

I tagged myself along to the airport with my housemate who was picking her brother. Just as we stepped into the airport from its parking lot, we noticed this on the airport’s flight information monitors.

Project 366: #18 Blue Screen of Death spotted at KLIA

Reminds me of the Windows BSOD incident at Beijing 2008 Olympics I’ve blogged about before.

KLIA, what are your IT engineers doing? Lol.

Steven’s Project 366: New Shoe Bag for Stanley

I was on the phone with my younger brother the other night and I forgot the conversation all the way to me asking him if he’d like a new shoe bag.

Me: You don’t have shoe bag meh? Want me to buy one for you or not?
Him: WANT!

Project 366: #17 Nike shoe bag for little bro.

Take it as X’mas + Birthday + New Year + CNY combo present lah. :)

p.s. Image taken using HTC Windows Phone.

Steven’s Project 366: When You’re Bored on a Train Ride

Occasionally, I travel between KL Sentral and Putrajaya Sentral via the ERL, or widely known as the KLIA Transit. Its fare is rather expensive compared to RapidKL’s Express line, but the ERL is much cozier, faster, and they’re equipped with free YES 4G wireless Internet connection.

Yes, wireless Internet on a train that’s moving at 160 km per hour. I guess amazing things do happen when you say yes. :)

This is one of the many places the ERL passes. I took this picture using a Windows Phone and I believe many knows this place. In fact, it is the Kuala Lumpur base of our very Royal Malaysian Air Force.

But (without googling) do you know the actual name of this airport?

Project 366: #16 Random Picture from ERL: Royal Malaysian Air Force Base near Sungai Besi

Simpang Airport is an airport in Kuala Lumpur which is widely known as TUDM Kuala Lumpur. It served as Kuala Lumpur International Airport from 1952 to 1965, until the main airport was moved to Subang International Airport (now the Subang Skypark Terminal).

It is used as the Royal Malaysian Air Force, Royal Malaysian Police Air Wing and the air unit of Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department base. The Royal Malaysian Air Force Museum is also located at this airport. [source]

In May 2011, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib Razak announced that the Royal Malaysian Air Force base will be moved to Sendayan in Negeri Sembilan.

1Malaysia Book Voucher for Higher Education Malaysian Students

I’ve finally gotten mine.

Project 366: #15 1Malaysia Book Voucher worth RM 200

Thank you Dato’ Seri Najib; though the greedy side of me wished it’s casssshhhhhhh or Nike vouchers LOL.

But still, thank you. I’m so gonna get the Steve Jobs’ biography :D

Hi students from other universities and colleges, have you gotten yours?? If you haven’t, go ask!

p.s. the date is Jan 17 and this is only #15 of my Project 366. Missed out two days, am I dead?

Singapore’s MRT is Much Better

Earlier this week I was travelling back to Cyberjaya from Sunway. My initial plan to take a train from my friend’s place to KL Sentral, before taking the ERL to the Putrajaya Sentral failed – all thanks to the lousy KTM service.

I waited for close to an hour and when the train arrived, it was packed like like sardines are packed in cans. Utterly pissed, I left the train station and called a metered cab instead.

Project 366: #14 I think I miss being in Singapore.

Like it or not, if there’s a reason, apart from good money, for me to move to Singapore in the future, it has got to be the effectiveness of its MRT.

Gonna head out for late dinner and Manchester United vs Bolton Wanderers game later. Glory Glory Man United!

Steven’s Project 366: Friday the 13th

It was Friday the 13th – thankfully nothing bad happened to me, but my friend, Sean, injured himself from falling off the staircases whilst carrying some stuffs down. That’s why he couldn’t make it to futsal last night.

Shopping malls have started installing new decorations for the Chinese New Year (19 more days!!!). I’ve seen a picture of the CNY decor at Pivilion KL and boy, it was awesome (go google! :P). Yesterday, I dropped by Berjaya Times Square before heading to Sunway Mentari, and found out they’ve got pretty decent decoration too.

Project 366: #13 CNY is coming sooooooonnnnn :D

Not the best picture quality you could find around here cos it was a quick snap from the Windows Phone I’m using.

Unclean Water Supply at Cyberia Smarthomes

I don’t know what to say.

Project 366: #12 Spot the difference.

Left is filtered, right is unfiltered. It has been like this since weekend, if I recall correctly.

I mean, Cyberia is such a good place to live in despite its expensive rental, but this.. I don’t even..

This is worse than having crappy Internet connection (read: Streamyx). Sigh.

Windows Phone 7.5 on HTC Surround

If you know smartphones but you’ve never heard of the Windows ® Phone 7.5 (or more fondly known as the ‘Mango’ lately), then you’re outdated.

Windows ® Phone 7.5 (codenamed ‘Mango’) is a major software update for Windows Phone, the mobile OS by Microsoft. It started to be released in September 2011 and the first phones preloaded with the OS were released in Q4 of 2011. [source: wikipedia]

Project 366: #11 Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango).

Being the Microsoft Student Partner of MMU Cyberjaya chapter and a blogger, I was given a demo unit of Windows Phone to use and to review. Demo unit means that the phone is only developer-unlocked (yes, I can test Windows Phone apps using this unit) but not SIM-unlocked (Wi-Fi only). So far, I’ve used it for about 2-3 weeks but have yet to sit down and write a proper review (or to put it simply, my thoughts) of the Windows Phone OS.

Nevertheless, I’ll be writing about it next week. :)

Picture: Ashley Young, Park Ji-Sung, Steven Tan, Rio Ferdinand

I mentioned in previous blog post, I was at the Mister Potato road show where Manchester United legend, Gary Neville, made a special appearance.

Also at their road show, there’s a booth with backdrop of a few Manchester United players for visitors to take pictures of.

Project 366: #10 Young, Park, Tan, and Ferdinand.

Hmm.. You know what?

Spotted: Manchester United Legend Gary Neville at Sunway Pyramid!

Manchester United Legend Gary Neville with Prem of Fly FM and 8TV Quickie

I spent the afternoon at Sunway Pyramid yesterday, mainly for getting a glimpse of Manchester United retired player, Gary Neville, who was at Mister Potato’s roadshow. I’ll be sharing more pictures of the event in (next) non-Project-366 blog post.

I strongly believe that Project 366 posts should remain what it’s meant to do. Haha!

Anyway…….

Project 366: #9 Manchester United Legend Gary Neville at Sunway Pyramid, with Prem of Fly FM and 8TV Quickie.

Dear Prem,

I has many jeles..
You happy nao? >:(

Sincerely,
Another huge-ass Man United fan.

p.s. noisy neighbours just got quiet :P GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED!!

Taiwanese Food at Formosa Restaurant Sunway Pyramid

This is a typical what-I-had-for-lunch-today post.

But it was so good I had to include it in my 2012 Project 366 :P

Project 366: #8 Hot Crispy Chicken and Salted Chicken at Formosa Taiwanese Restaurant.

This was exactly what I had for lunch and my stomach is growling whilst typing this blog post D:

The Formosa Restaurant could have been a familiar place for many, but if you haven’t been there, do give it a try! :) It’s pretty delicious and isn’t too expensive, especially if you order set meal where you could get a plate of chicken, a bowl of braised rice and a drink of your choice for around RM 12 – RM 15.

It’s located at the Asian Avenue in Sunway Pyramid.

Manchester United FC Keyring

I haven’t showcased this anywhere on the Internet. In December, my camera went travelling in the UK with my friend, Ivan. So, as a token of appreciation, Ivan bought me a classic, yet lovely, keyring of a Manchester United FC crest.

It’s an official Manchester United merchandise so even if it’s just a keyring, I’m still happy!

Project 366: #7 Official Manchester United Merchandise.

Thank you, Ivan.

GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED!!

Let’s tapao ’the noisy neighbours’ this Sunday!!! RAWR!!!!!!!!

Amazingly Cheap Nasi Lemak in Cyberjaya

Cheap RM 1.50 Nasi Lemak in Cyberjaya

My housemates bought me lunch today. Two packets of Nasi Lemak, and each of them only costs RM 1.50 (which is freaking cheap compared to other places in Cyberjaya, i.e. Oldtown). Tastes good too! :)

Project 366: #6 Cheap Nasi Lemak in Cyberjaya.

If you’re interested to try it out, it’s sold at the stall with alphabet ‘O’ near the Cyberjaya post office. In case you’re new here, the Cyberjaya post office is located next to RapidKL Cyberjaya hub, which is next to Street Mall.

English: ”Nasi lemak”: rice cooked with coconut milk and served with sweet chili paste (sambal), a fried fish and fried dried small fry wrapped in a banana leaf. [quote: http://bit.ly/wXtNtB]

Clouds Over the Sky of Cyberjaya on a Sunny Day

Sunny day and beautiful clouds in Cyberjaya

We had heavy rain almost every afternoon or evening in December. Comes January and it has been sunny since. The weather hasn’t been very friendly since New Year’s Day, and today is another scorchingly hot day! It’s 34 degree Celsius at the time of writing this post, according to the Accuweather.com.

Project 366: #5 Sunny Day in Cyberjaya.

So not used to the super hot weather! D: Wish I could enjoy a bowl of ice kacang now..

A Card Holder from Bugis Junction

Envelope design card holder

Apart from buying a new wallet, I also purchased a nicely designed card holder so that I don’t have to carry my wallet out every time I go out, i.e. to the mamak for dinner or just to run some errands.

Project 366: #4 Card Holder with Envelope’s Design.

Bought it from The Wallet Shop at Bugis Junction, Singapore, for $11 SGD (Multimedia University card not included).

Braun Buffel Wallet – My First Leather Wallet

Braun Buffel Men's Wallet

I’ve been using my current wallet for almost three years now and most of the people who saw my wallet have told me to change. Because it’s really worn out already. Lucky me, my mom was kind enough to sponsor me a new wallet! So, the first thing I went looking after at the Orchard Road in Singapore was a new wallet.

Project 366: #3 My First Ever Designer Wallet.

I haven’t decided when to start using this wallet though. lol

What was your X’mas or New Year present? Do share with us ;)

That S.O.B

It was my first football game on the pitch in 2012 and I was just getting my first touch on the ball before I got challenge for the ball from the opposing team player.

Project 366: #2 That SOB!!

I hope he falls in a drain and break a tooth or something. *@&#^%$(@!!!

Definition: SOB (n. Vulgar): A son of a bitch.
